Dog days of summer?

Not really sure where that saying came from. I can say it is very hot here on the east coast. yes, today was a very warm 105. Yes 105. It broke the all time record. Tomorrow we are looking at temp around 100. Well I can say that the dogs are not real happy about it either. The ac in the dog pen area is running on high and getting the dogs to come out for a bathroom break gets harder as it gets hotter. So heres the drill. They come running out of the pens in the morning. The mid-day break slows to a very slow walk. And then the evening break speeds back up a little. With that said, they know it's hot outside and they know as soon as they finish with the bathroom break that I will give in and let them back in the with the ac. The breaks are short but being out in that kind of heat with a thick dog coat on is not good. Hoping for a quick end to the hot summer so we all can spend more time outside...

Mr Rocco...

"Mr Rocco"

went back to the vet today. His stitches in his paw were removed. He was so happy to walk out the vet door. He pulled me all the way back to the truck. The lab work all came back negative and we both were smiling all the way home. We need to keep the paw clean and if no swelling or no future complications we just need to keep a watchful eye. I got Rocco home and the other dogs were excited to see him back so soon. He climbed in to his bed and fell right to sleep. All good on the Mr. Rocco side of the dog world...

One week later...

well it's been a week now since rocco had his paw surgery. he continues doing well. we changed his bandages again today and all looks good. he is up and moving around very well. he will only take his medicine pills with his favorite can dog food. so... i guess he will get the can dog food for a couple of weeks until the medicine runs out. we have to put a plastic cover over his paw each time he goes out to help keep it clean and dry. has figured out that if he keeps still and quiet while we are out, my attention will go to the other dogs and then it's his chance to chew off the plastic paw cover. so... after replacing a couple of plastic covers, i now keep a real close eye out for him chewing...
