Christmas 2010... “SQUIRREL”...

All went well for this years christmas celebration. It's always good to see family and friends for the holidays. We had a total of 10 for this years dinner. Turkey and Ham were served as the main coarse. But let's not forget we had 9 dogs eating also. The weather was cold and snow flurries in our area with snow on the way for the next few days. Snuggled in the new dog blankets, going out to take a bathroom/ potty break was not on the top of the dogs list. With the wind blowing briskly, the dogs ears flapping in the wind, the hurry to get out and get back into the warmth took on a new urgent meaning.
As I was standing out and the dogs are doing there thing, the cold weather has us all shivering and the wind seems to blow straight through you, I was reminded of the "UP" movie. Do you remember how the dog on the movie was talking and looses all focus as his head turns and shouts "SQUIRREL"...? Well, the same thing is true with real dogs. Standing there (freezing) all the dogs start lining up to get ready to go back in. A sound came from far off and the "SQUIRREL" factor takes over. All the cold, wind, snow, shivering disappears as the dog heads come up, tails straight into the air and off they go running for the fence to investigate the sound. Yep, the race is on. Buster usually makes it to the fence first now days. But there was a time when sadie girl and sassy were by far the fastest on 4 legs. As with us all, time marches on we get older and yes a little slower. Rocco, our oldest dog, runs as hard as he can, almost always last to the back fence, but that doesn't stop him from getting there and making sure we are all safe from any "Squirrels" invading the back yard. Now mind you, we have never seen a squirrel in the yard or in any of the near by trees. I guess you could say the dogs are doing a great job with squirrel watch.... We wish everyone Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year. We hope your new year will bring you happiness and always remember to be prepared for that unexpected... "SQUIRREL"...
